Plains and more Plains, Beatrice, Nebraska

Hello from Beatrice, Nebraska (Home of the National Homestead Monument of America).

Today I flew over 4 different states, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. I also crossed the Mississippi again and the Missouri river which converge as they pass through the city of St Louis, Missouri.

My route took me north of Kansas City, a very curious city since most of it is in Missouri and not in Kansas, as one would expect. It is worth reading the historical reasons that explain why this is like this.

The weather was good and I took advantage of this condition to advance toward the middle of the country. Kansas and Nebraska is the location where in most US maps you will see the words: "UNITED STATES of AMERICA". I can confirm this is a myth. If those letters were there I would have seen them, because they cannot be that small.

Arriving at my starting airport today.

This is the office that was closed yesterday. It is a pity I missed them when I arrived because they are very kind and helpful. They also had a courtesy car.
Oh well....... next time!

This very kind guy (sorry I forgot his name), not only filled the plane with fuel, but cleaned the windshield from mosquitoes and other debris.

As soon as I took of ......the plains where there, and would be for the whole trip.
Quite soon in my route today I would be cleared (allowed) to transition through the Class B airspace of St Louis.
A view from the distance with the Mississippi from N to S.

A closer view. I was not vectored through the downtown area where the famous Arch is, but I could see it from the distance. The pictures are not zoomed enough, but it is between the 2 bridges that cross the Mississippi on the side closest to the downtown skyscrapers. I include some more pictures and a zoomed section of one of the pics.

The Arch can be seen in this picture, but for clarity I add the one below which is a zoomed section.

This is the St. Louis Arch.

 The Missouri river

Plains....

 ...and plains.....
 ...and more plains....
 ...and more...

Crossing the Missouri once again.

Yes, the Missouri once more.
 ...plains and Missouri...
 ...plains...
...and plains...

Finally landing in Beatrice.
Of course with cross-winds and gusts. This is becoming everyday's practice.

My courtesy loaner car today; A cool old Buick with some engine problems; "...it may stop at any time" -tells me the office guy. "Just put the gear in neutral and start it again".  ...He was right.

As mentioned at the beginning of this post Beatrice has the Homestead National Monument of America. I include these 2 pictures which are self explanatory.

A bird producing 4 blue eggs had nested next to Louisiana's representation on the wall. Very cool!

My track today:

Totals for the Day:

  • 3 hours 45 minutes.

That's all folks!

...I am telling you, there were no letters; no Roman or Arial or Courier or italics or bold....standing orlaying down.... nothing...... Just plains, clouds and farmland.

  3. When the Soviet Union collapsed many economist suggested they allow an electronic computerized version of homesteading. Unfortunately they just turned over the wealth to the mafia and politically well-connected

    1. The US government was very nice with their citizens offering their land for free. See? this proves this is a socialist country after all.

Most probably this explains why large portions of the US territory is drawn as squares of about 12 x 12 which is about 160 acres each, the land size per farm in the Homestead project.
      Is that right?
